Best Family Hotel

I grew up traveling a lot with my family. I love seeing new places, experiencing new things, feeling the sun beat from a new direction.

Now as a mom, I know two things about traveling as a family. First, it can be expensive and hard to actually get to that new place and second, the most important part is having that time together.

Enter: The staycation.

As a family, we stayed in Minnesota this summer. But we did get the amazing opportunity to try out the Embassy Suites in Brooklyn Park for a staycation.

We swam and played and ate out. We had cocktails and appetizers and breakfast (made by someone else!). We watched a movie in bed and played endless rounds of UNO and MadLibs.

It was the perfect end of summer family getaway!

I have a soft spot for Embassy Suites because it was the first hotel I stayed at when visiting Minnesota while Jason and I were still long distance. I adored it as a young traveler for how pretty, inviting, and convenient it is.

Oh but as a mom, there’s so much to love.

The beautiful entrance.

The stunning lobby.

Hotel Lobby

The pool (and hot tub!).

Indoor PoolThe Complimentary Evening Reception — delicious (and free!) snacks and cocktails.

Manager's Reception

The generously sized and beautifully decorated rooms.

Two Queen BedsAnd so very important to note for a family, the separate living space that includes a small kitchenette complete with the all-important microwave for movie popcorn and refrigerator for snacks, a table perfect for games, and pull out couch for extra sleeping space.

This kind of setup made it possible for our kids to go to bed, and for Jason and I to stay up “late” (for us) with our feet up and to catch up on the day.

Suites Living AreaAlso important to our large-ish family is the large and luxurious feeling bathroom.

Suite BathroomAfter we swam and showered and got a little dressed up, we went out to dinner at the hotel restaurant where the hits were the incredible appetizers.

And in the morning, we headed right back down for the complimentary cooked-to-order hotel breakfast. My kids loved choosing exactly what they wanted from cold to hot fare — a cereal bar, pastries, fruit and yogurt, savory treats like eggs, bacon, and made-to-order omelets, and sweet ones, too, like waffles and French toast served with warm syrup.

Breakfast AreaEmbassy Suites has more than 200 hotels in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America all built on the concept of “more” — more reasons to stay at a great price creating a fun and upscale experience and, most importantly, upping your quality family time.

Because as busy as families are, every single moment you can grab that captures smiles and moments is so very worth it. Especially if you’re not the one doing the cooking and cleaning for it!

  1. Staycations are awesome!

  2. Isn’t is funny that when we go on a trip, the kids have as much to say about the hotel we stay in as the sights they see on vacation?

    • Ohmygoodness, right?!

When i was teaching it was the bus ride versus the field trip!

And this? Is exactly the same!

(*I secretly love this about kids! And I have a sneaky hunch that you do, too!)

  3. This looks like a great hotel! I’ve never taken my boys on a staycation but I know they would absolutely love it!!!

  4. Yes to the staycation! We have a very tight budget, so the past two summers we have done staycations. The teen and dad turn off their phones, we go to cheap movies, museums, go to a water park and just spend time together. It doesn’t have to be a new city to be a family vacation as much as we would like that. It still works. And frankly. . .no packing makes it less stress!

Your kids are adorable! super cute. We’ve done staycations and they are equally fun. This hotel sounds great, mostly due to the indoor pool. I’ve had bad sun burns from the past and I sometimes just want to enjoy the pool without the sun 😀

    • Oh thank you, girl! I agree on all of the above — my kids are keepers, staycations are amazing, and indoor pool fun is perfection!

  6. What cute pics! I adore staycations, so much simpler than a big vacation!
